ABOUT ABOUT

Opening Night Party and Awards Ceremony in Pepin, WI on Thursday, October 18 6pm.

The 5th Annual Flyway Film Festival is proud to announce this year’s “Flyway Gala” opening night party and awards ceremony at the Lake Pepin Art & Design Center, October 18, 2012. The Flyway Gala, an assembly of food, libations and entertainment, as well as the formal presentation of the Festival “Axe” awards (designed by nationally recognized Bay City, WI artist David Culver), is a must-attend event for film professionals, art and music aficionados, and anyone who appreciates independent film.
Up-and-coming Minneapolis musical duo Wolf Lords (Grant Cutler and Aby Wolf) will headline this event. Cutler, a prolific songwriter and talented producer, has been behind several acclaimed Twin Cities outfits – from Lookbook (City Pages’ Best New Band 2009) to his own work with Grant Cutler and the Gorgeous Lords (First Avenue’s Best New Bands 2010) and composing the score for the feature film Stuck Between Stations (an official selection of the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival). Wolf, an acclaimed singer and songwriter in her own right, released her first album, Sweet Prudence in 2009, receiving the compliments of City Pages' Best Female Vocalist, Best Album, and Best Artist, and also performs with her own group, A. Wolf & Her Claws, as well as local indie-chamber-folk sextet Dark Dark Dark and Doomtree's Dessa Darling. Her powerful vocals and mesmerizing stage presence are a perfect marriage with Cutler’s electronic mastery. Both are well worthy of the buzz they have started in the local music scene.

Full Festival pass holders, Opening Night ticket holders, and specially designated Festival guests and partners, including sponsors Joia All Natural Soda, Treasure Island Casino, Red Wing Framing, Lake Pepin Real Estate, and Cinematic, are invited to attend this VIP Gala. The evening will begin with a reception of small bites and hors d’oeuvres catered by local restaurateurs and food professionals, as well as 2012 signature Flyway cocktails, featuring mixologist-created Joia sodas, where attendees can network and mingle between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm. It will be a great opportunity to meet and connect with directors, screenwriters and other professionals in the film industry, as well as the local community. This reception will be followed by an exclusive, private rock-and-roll show exclusive to Gala attendees.
A sample programming of national and international short films will screen throughout the evening in the back courtyard/tent lounge area of the Art & Design Center.
